NZ: I’ve been lucky enough to watch Ross Taylor bat live. There are few things that can top the feeling he evokes in a crowd once he gets those onside whacks going. Understandable ecstasy on reaching his hundred given all the questions raised regarding his commitment after the latest IPL contract. You need these kind of players in form for a World Cup to make any sense. KP’s unfortunately out, but Pollard (had a good one vs Netherlands), Yuvraj (on his way to recovery), Razzaq (today), Cameron White, Graeme Smith, Dilshan and Tamim Iqbal need to be in sizzling touch to make it truly a World Cup.
For NZ fans, what would have been most gratifying was the manner in which their fielding and bowling didn’t fall apart while Razzaq and Gul were going. Everyone remembers Razzaq vs SA and NZ themselves had a nasty experience with Yusuf Pathan recently.
So, can NZ do it? Would have been more hopeful if Ryder and Kane Williamson were in. But we shall take what we get.
Pak: Having been a longtime supporter of Kamran Akmal myself, it’s hard when that feeling of “_____ this guy” sets in midway through a game. When the whole world thinks you’re horrible at what you do, it’s hard to see where he’s going to get any confidence from, for the remaining games. I think the biggest screwup from this would be if Akhtar loses out on remaining games. He’s that kind of moody character, is Shoaib. Some things just flatten him, and he delivers only when really inspired. Despite the early noballs, you felt he was through with this game after the dropped catches
I called it a week ago that Kamran was going to cost us a game and today was it. Ross Taylor is not as good of a batsman as everyone makes him out to be. But when you are given two chances of course you’ll get somewhere. Great bowling from Akhtar but really poor attitude. They just threw this game away which is sad because NZ’s run rate was so low and then the last 5 overs we just didnt care enough to bowl well…Gul was superb today.
i called it two weeks ago if pakistan lose any game kamran akmal will b responsible with his poor wicket keeping. he is a gambler and been envolved in many fixed game ,his father mr butt chairman of pcb and his uncle waqar younis plus his brother afridi cannot see him out from pakistani team because without him they cant lose the game and win gambling money and he is chairman of match fixing .he is worse keeper of pakitan cricket history plz replace him and keep him in the team as a batsman or match fixer agent and also give other two fast bowler riaz,khan oppurtunity .kamran akmal is terrible keeper .the worse,terrible keeper of world cric history.
You dont have to go around calling everybody a fixer even though that is exactly the thought that comes to mind. Kamran might be involved but Afridi, Shoaib, Gul and Waqar are true Pakistanis who would’nt be involved in this kinda crap.
Admin the same exact thought came to my mind after that 2nd catch drop regarding Kamran Akmal. How on _____ing earth is he gonna do good after that intentional or non intentional screw up. The target should’ve never been 300+…it was gonna be like 240 max if “Rose Taylor” was caught out. Of all the screw ups by this keeper this is by far the worst. Usually he is closer to stumps and misses stumpings and what not but this was a regulation catch and the one before that. I’ve never been this disappointed. When I was watching the Pak batting….I continuously fumed and in my head only one thought kept creeping in…”that motherlover kamran cost us this game”….sad thing that it wont be the last because the tiny bit of confidence he had is now down the tubes.
isn’t umar akmal an option or are they worried it will screw his batting up?
But hes usually a stand in though…I bet that he’ll be a much better keeper with training but World Cup isnt the time to be doing these things lol

The first one was not even dropped. It was well left!
The second reminded me of Herschelle Gibbs ‘dropping the world cup’. He was smiling before he even took the catch.
That said, it’ll be a poor move if pakistan drop kamraan akmal now. It’ll hurt more than it will help.
@admin: I don’t know why you like Kamraan Akmal. He’s no Gilchrist or Sangakara. Your support for Yuvraj, KP, Taylor suggests that you like aesthetic more than value. True, these 3 are probably the most talented batsmen in the world right now and can rip apart any bowling attack on their day, but I’d much rather watch a dogged 70 by say someone like Kallis than a flamboyant 30 by one of these batsmen.
thing is he was a pretty decent keeper and a beautiful to watch batsman in a long gone era
you’re right about the aesthetics thing to a certain extent, but sometimes it also depends on the team. i liked azhar ali right from his debut because he made sense in the pak team at the time. similarly kane williamson as a middle order buffer to his top 4

I’m very furious !! First of I want to brutally kick the ass & face of Kamran Akmal !!! 2nd ,, throw him out of the team & give his gloves,,,,, no,,, no,,, give a new pair of gloves to Umar Akmal… Bring Wahab Riaz as a replacement & also Saeed Ajmal as the replacement of Abdul Rehman.
This is not a test game, this is ODI, where you need wickets. Very sad of today’s performance of Pakistan. urgh !!!!!!!!
Are the Team mates confident about the ability of Kamran Akamal. The selectors definitely seem to be satisfied with the keeper!! Well, talking about team mates, saw nobody come close to Akamal to encourage him as the team mates usually do after a dropped catch, may be they expect him to drop another one soon so do not want to take the risk of patting him on the back!!!
Hmm do the Pakistan team have a reserve Keeper in their world cup squad? If yes may be try that guy!!
I thought dropping Michael Hussey several times in one game was really bad but this performance is equally bad if not worse.
Have seen a couple of match winning innings by Kamaran Akamal against India in Test matches but i think both were possible because Indian bowlers love to see his drives!!!
Batting is not the point I believe a Wicket keeper batsman should be a proper keeper first than after that the batting should be a bonus not the other way around. A poor keeper can really cost you a game any moment!!!
I am with all the supporters of pakistan regarding their comments for Akamal. I would really tear my hair out if I see the wicket keeper of my favourite team perform like that!! (Well, I can still recall Parthiv Patel!!!!!! cost India a Test series In Australia!!!!!!!)

Couldn’t agree with u more. Plus NZ bowlers are nothing but our batsmen just gave up. Just look at Ireland for inspiration. 110/5 and still won. Razzaq could’ve been that guy today with Gul. Razzaq hasn’t done much since couple of blitzkrieg against England and SA.
I hope that they quickly move on from this and put in umar behind the wickets and experiment against Zimbabwe. Btw,if Pak was in group B we would have said good bye a long time ago. Thanks to extremely poor associates such as Canada, Kenya and Zimbabwe (not associate). Afghanistan should have been here instead of Kenya.
I’ve seen some really mediocre stuff from the blackcaps in the last 12 months but this was satisfying and highly enjoyable.All these talk of Pakistan being flat and akmal dropping catches but credit where it’s due, NZ where brilliant in all aspects of the game.Huge confidence boost for the kiwis and i guess more soul searching for Pakistan..On a sadder note i hope vettori’s injury isn’t too bad..could this be vettori’s last match as a blackcap..?It will be a sad end to one of NZ’s greatest players..
In some Sri Lankan venues the ball does seam around during the evenings, NZ has a great chance to beat the sub continent teams under such condtions especially with their tall bowlers. Definitely would have a great chance if they meet India in the Quarter Finals. Yes they lost the series in India recently but they deliberately did not use enough short balls durng that series against India.
other three teams from the other pool would be a little harder to beat for NZ especially if vettori is unavailable. A great knock from Brendon Mccullum could get them through to the semi finals though and definitely from there its really anybody’s game!!!
This NZ side does miss those slow one day specialist bowlers like chris harris, Gavin Larson, to a lesser extent Nathan Astle who were very useful in sub continent conditions. This attack without vettori does look a bit lean!!!!!
They could also hope to see West Indies in the Quarter Finals!!!!!!
NZ always does make it to the Semis of the world events and I won’t be surprised to see them in the semis here as well but the next step forward is the big thing for them Yes, they have won a Champion’s trophy, though the world cup is somehow something else!!! Its hard to see them beating teams like South Africa or Australia. Would be interesting if they actually do that!!!!
one mistake per match is fine but 5-6 mistakes?? 3 drop catches and no effort of stopping boundaries… kamran needs to f*** off…. he needs to be replaced immediately with junaid khan or asad shafiq… and umar akmal should do the keeping…. and they also need to do something about shoaib akhtar… again 1 bad delivery is fine but a whole over of bad deliveries??? wtf is up with that????
the coach really need to do something quick cos that was the worst bowling and fielding performance i’ve ever seen!! everyone is given credits to new zealand and taylor for crushing pakistan…… with performance like pakistan even little kids would smash them…. seriously… dropped catches, poor fielding, no effort, wides, no balls, full tosses, short bowls, fail yorkers…. wtf???? rubbish!! look how new zealand bowled and fielded!! they bowled straight, good length to full length and they can bowl yorkers better than any pak bowler… they were very accurate. i think pakistan lost this on purpose cos you cant just perform like that without meaning it…..
