Watch Pakistan vs Australia highlights – the Group A game from the 2011 World Cup played on March 19

Scoreline: Australia 176 all out – Haddin 42 (80), Clarke 34 (48), Steve Smith 25 (32) | Umar Gul 7.4-1-30-3, Razzaq 4-8-2
Pakistan win in 41 – Umar Akmal 44 no (59), Asad Shafiq 46 (81), Younis Khan 31 (42) | Brett Lee 8-1-28-4

Look out for Umar Akmal as he’s walking off saying what sounds like, “Who’s the man of the match?” If he strives for that every game, most Pak fans would be happy.

I am a Pakistani fan however, Pakistan is incapable of chasing no matter how big or small the totals are. They will make a mess of it. Pakistan should have won this game by at least 8 wickets. I just pray they will win all their tosses and bat first but you never know this is Pakistan, bat first can back fire as well. Shahid Afridi should now bat at no 10. Afridi bats by reflexes and not by his brain. When he was younger his reflexes were good and he used to score and now he is old. Umar Gul should bat higher up. He is a better batsman than Shahid Afridi. Most of Afrid’s wickets came against Canada, Zimb and Kenya, how many wickets did he take against Australia today?. He does not give a lot of run though which is good. Pakistan is probably only team whose opening patnership didn’t cross 50 runs in this tournament. People who say, there is no God. I say to them look at Pakistan cricket team. They topped the points table in their Group. They may even win the world cup and that is what I am praying for.
    Admin any thoughts?

as ive said here before, i feel pak’s progress this world cup can happen mostly through inspiration, because of some weak areas. and i felt this inspiration could come through afridi as captain.

one can understand why he bats above razzaq. it’s like if it comes off, good, if not, the more controlled razzaq can take care of things. i also feel that on days when afridi comes off he would be better suited to great fast bowling than razzaq, because he’ll move around and rely on his eye. so when pak are setting a total or on a day like today (it didnt happen today – am just saying) if you have a Lee steaming in, a few boundaries smashed by afridi could turn the game. having said that, what disappoints is the fact that he definitely has a nudge and push game which he rarely adopts even if the situation is screaming for it.

but seriously man, i’d say, enjoy today and take each game one at a time – it’s a big deal, being the team that stopped aus. im sure all here now know that aus have been unbeaten in world cups since 1999 (last beaten by pak)

Great game. The chasing was still a nightmare to watch like A Gauhar pointed out. Couple of things that ticked me off:

    1. Why didnt Ponting walk off? That was a extremely healthy edge…no need to stick around.

    2. Haddin pushing and shoving…I mean wtf.

    3. Ian Chappell needs to stfu here and there. When the Pakistan team was in a team hurdle after Aus innings…he kept saying they should walk off. I mean wtf is his problem…they were probably saying good job and lets try to finish it off in a good way. Pakistan has nukes and I know that they made them for another country but I do have a new target in mind. Actually a couple, Sidhu included.

Overall great game but chasing is really poor from us but then again Lee was bowling at like 90mph. I’m so glad that we ended Aus domination just like we did in 1999. Its a great day to be a Pak fan.

And admin, thank you so much for the timely highlights. We really appreciate the time and effort that you put into this website solely for cricket fans.

    • David Hussey was heard saying during a match “A typical Australian would walk”. Ricky Ponting (a typical Australian) would never walk even if he edges it to third slip!!!! Well this ball was also atleast edged enough to go to first slip but that ‘man of integrty’ Ricky Ponting would just never ever walk!!!!!!!

Its common for Australian players to behave like Haddin did but the disappointing thing is the administrators (the umpires or the match refrees) just are seen explaining something to the Asian players!!!! as was again happening here.

Regarding Ian Chappell, I do regard him as a very knowledgeable commentator and quite a good one, I guess, he was not commenting on the team huddle, I thought he was just trying to say that Pakistan have done a great job by finishing Australian Innings off and not letting the Australian Tail to somehow crawl upto 190 or 200.

I hope the ‘Nukes’ stay away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! from everyone!!!

Enjoyable win, very enjoyable to see Aussies beaten (would have enjoyed more had they been thrashed). Great job Pakistan!!

Loved the square hit by Umar Akamal, he cut short the follow through of Brett Lee, that was fun to see his follow through on that ball!! The pull shot in front of square played by Shafiq was equally enjoyable played against Tait if i am correct. Loved to see attacking shots played successfully against Tait and Johnson (just can’t let these bowlers bowl as they want to, they have to be attacked, especially on these slower pitches, that was a treat to watch!!!!)

Also encouraging and good from world cricket point of view that Shane Watson and Michael Hussey were not allowed any useful knocks in this game right before the knock outs!!! Want to see how much is left in the ageing Ponting and his ‘pup’!!! Really good for world cricket to see Aussies lose. Exciting team Pakistan, really well done!!!!!!!!!

Pakistan team is always enjoyable to watch. When they play against Australia its even more enjoyable (yaa they haven’t won against them much recently). Its real treat to see the talented players from both teams!!!!!!!!!

I would say as Moin Khan would have said “Shaaba Shaaba boe” (Well done boy) Well Done Pakistan, very satisfying game!!!!!!!!! All the best to Pakistan for the Knock outs!!!!!

      • badsubby says:

I agree with you on the nukes. I should have thought of better words. When I was writing it I just wanted people to get the gist of it. Nothing political. Im as neutral as they get.

      • Hassaan says:

Greg ‘Grumpy’ Chappel whining after Afridi castled Steve Smith “I don’t like Afridi’s celebration for a couple of reasons. First, he hasn’t done much to get the wicket, the batsman has helped me. Second, I don’t think it is good with his team-mates, he just stands there in the middle of the pitch with his arms raised.”

Do you still want to defend this arrogant SOB?…I mean seriously…age is taking toll on this guy’s mental health and he is not fit for commentating anymore…he better get to Australia and practice under-arm bowling with his bro…

        • I also feel that the comment regarding the Afridi celebration was particularly uncalled for. It is no body’s business to tell how one should celebrate. I completely agree with both of you on that.

          • Scott Lerner says:

I’m English and I thought Chappell’s comments were strange. Afridi always celebrates like that and telling them to get off at the end was crazy. They did well, had a bit of a celebration and then plenty of time for the Aussie innings. Sour grapes.

  3. SAM HALLETT says:

    Brilliant..absolutely Brilliant…!!well done Pakistan…..

  4. badsubby says:

On a second note, Australia is so going up against India lol because i have a feeling that they’ll be fine against WI. So, it’ll be a awesome QF to watch.

  5. Ashar Khan says:

lol @ the commentator for bashing Afridi for raising his hands up after taking a wicket. I felt like telling him to STFU. I honestly doubt any of Afridi’s team mates care if he puts his hands up like that. I enjoyed watching this game, came as a bit of a surprise that Pakistan won, but hey I’m not complaining. I’m hopeful Australia won’t win the world cup this time around as it’s getting old.

I’m fairly new to this website, but I must say I really appreciate the admin for posting all the games up for us to watch. As I reside in Canada and because I’m a student, I do not have the luxury of having a television service that provides live cricket matches so I’m grateful there are people like the admin around to fill that cricket fix we all need.

    Cheers.

    • Great!!!! I am of the similar opinion regarding that comment from Ian Chappell about Afridi. Everybody has a right to celebrate the way they want after taking a wicket!!!

I am really thankful to the admin because as Ashar mentioned not only television broadcast is unavailable but also in Canada its difficult to catch the games live when they are being played in the sub continent because of the time difference. Really really thankful to Admin!!!!!!!

Hmmm don’t be so pessimistic about your team ashar, I feel SL and Pakistan are the teams to beat in this world cup (Of course Australia is always an excellent team!!!) But like you I would hate to see Australia winning again!! But really, Pakistan and SL would be hard to beat!!!!!!

(P.S. sometimes during this world cup i felt that BCCI has become so professional after three seasons of IPL that i felt the results are all in their hands already. Seriously seriously hope that this is all rubbish and we all get to witness honest matches!!!!!!!!!!!!!) All the best to all the teams of the sub continent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. CJC says:

Admin i am sure ur with me on this that commentator was bias and unprofessional, he and nassian should never be commentating they preach too many hate, why hate on pakistan because they win, they could have a team gather if they want, its not like they will be out right away after coming off

    • admin says:

that was ian chappell. he’s normally quite fair (while on air) and says it like he sees it. but he did seem a little grumpy and nitpicky yesterday, which is why i included his comments. (who knows, maybe he had a bad lunch).
he seemed to settle down later in the evening and had quite a few fair comments on umar akmal, asad shafiq and lee who were basically the 3 players of the evening.

        Hello admin,

Firstly, I would like to appreciate you for tirelessly maintaining this very awesome site for cricket enthusiasts.
I somewhat agree with you regarding Ian Chappell, throughout the 80s/90s he and Richie Benaud were my favorite commentators. Unfortunately for the last 5 years I see Ian has become too senile to be mouthing his opinions on air. I still think he has good commentating style and is no doubt a master at analyzing technical situations in a match, 2 admirable qualities desired in commentators, but he has no right to make personally motivated comments on air, he could be a racist KKK clan member while off-air and I would not care, but when he is in a position to influence people, he should stick to the facts and analysis of the situation at hand, why someone is in a huddle, why someone else has the arms aloft and the psychological impact of such raised arms on the rest of the team (Is he a psychiatric when not commenting on tv ?) don’t suit someone of his stature.

PS Good luck to all asian teams, I hope one of our Asian team wins the world cup.

  7. A Gauhar says:

All good teams huddle before and after the game. That is what we do in the United States. Ian Chappal can go *%#@ himself. I agree with Sumati Bansal, either Pakistan (first choice), India or Sri Lanka should win this world cup.

  8. jcsy says:

Great work from Pakistan…and Aussies won’t mind at all..i’m guessing…but kudos to Afridis captaincy…..guy is awesome…

  9. jcsy says:

way back, play back…itz lyk sanath doing the captaincy…BOOM BOOM!!!

  10. H.K. says:

Hello ppl… just joined the site… what an awesome gift to those who are not living in the cricketing world. Thanks admin for all your effort.
Congrats Pakistan on a great victory. I hope India beats Australia big time so that we can have the semi-final of all ages….. INDIA VS PAKISTAN. What an amazing world cup this is turning out to be!
On a more personal note… I felt quite irritated at Ian Chappell’s comments. He was also spewing acid in an interview he gave to cricinfo after the game. He usually is a pretty stand up guy but I think he did an Afridi today.

  11. FLYiiN ACE says:

Pakistan isnt letting any team cough. Any team that shows any symptoms of coughing, pakistani players are giving out cough syrup to everyone and anyone. Terriffic bowling by everyone in this match. The fielding has been outstanding. Keep it up pakistan! and many thanks to Admin doing a great job on posting all highlights here on time.

  12. Wasi says:

ASIAN TEAM SHOULD WIN THIS WORLD CUP. ITS ENOUGH WE HAD WITH AUSSIS.

    Love Pakistan.
