Watch Australia vs India highlights – the 2011 World Cup Quarter Final match played at Motera, Ahmedabad on March 24
Scoreline: Australia 260/6 – Ricky Ponting 104 (118), Haddin 53 (62), David Hussey 38 no (26) | Yuvraj 10-44-2, Zaheer 10-53-2, Ashwin 10-52-2
India win in 47.4 – Yuvraj Singh 57 no (65), Tendulkar 53 (68), Gambhir 50 (64), Raina 34 no (28)
The mother of all comebacks for the two, though Ponting possibly has faced more in the last year than Yuvraj. Even with his 2 man of the match awards this WC, this was truly the return of Yuvraj.
Would have been nice if the crowd at Ahmedabad had been gracious after their team had won and not booed Ponting postmatch.
This was certainly a delight to watch. Yuvraj batted phenominally and had great support as well. Looking forward to the semi-final on the 30th. Pakistan vs. India will be an ultimate match-up.
you are not shahid afridi, change your name….
Man…I feel like the apocalypse is near now …it will begin in Punjab next Wednesday. Funny thing is that Pak vs Ind fixture has overshadowed all other QF’s and potential SF’s haha.
here’s an interesting stat for pakistani’s: India has never lost to Pak in world cup matches.
here’s an interesting stat for indians: In all formats of the game, Pak has won more matches in all Ind VS PAK clashes.
it should be a cracker but india clearly a better and more consistent side, many say its going to be a close game but they forget that india is a far better team now and they’ve been better consistently. on the other hand we’ve got pakistan who have their ups and downs regularly. they improved themselves since the UAE series against south africa but still depend on a lot of luck… so it could be a NZ vs Pak all over again(this time india copying NZ) or it could be a real battle just like the old days… obviously indians not expecting a battle, certainly not sanjay manjrekar and ravi shastri
no harm in playing shoaib akhtar again… wahab riaz bowls wides and no balls too you know… and akhtar never repeats a bad performance unlike kamran akmal….
com’on let the man breathe his final breath with an express over… let him fire up and steam in for just one last time!
admin, do you have a clip of postmatch interview, just before the presentation ceremony when i think it was tony greig speaking to muralitharan after they defeated NZ… murali said “because” about 50 times it was hilarious!!!!
sorry, i think i missed that, because i don’t recall this interview
SUPERB WIN BY INDIA. Avenged the WC 2003 defeats (both games). As Dhoni mentioned I have not seen India field like that ever before.
Excellent body language shown by Yuvraj Singh, it was really impressive!!!!! The confidence with which he played his strokes was amazing. And as he said in the interview Pakistan game is yet to come but beating Australia is something else!!!!!!!!!!!
Gautam Gamhir in my view is one of the best (if not the best) batsmen against spin bowling (With due regards to Tendulkar and Laxman). He realy played with maturity till the run out. He is a real Asset.
The intent shown by Indian batsmen against hostile fast bowling was commendable. They did not let Lee and Co. to get on top of them at any stage of the game. Shane Watson posed a slight threat but really the Indian batsmen played him really really well!!!!!!!!
The Indian batting on the dying surface was really excellent. Had Australia batted second all blames would have gone to the nature of the pitch had they lost batting second. As I thoght Australian spin bowling weakness was a key element and to their dismay this pitch was not conducive for their quick men!!!!!!! Well, you have to be good on all surfaces!!!!!!! (thats what we have to hear when we face quick and bouncy wickets abroad!!!!)
I am so satisfied at this victory that I cannot tell!!!!!!!! Australia knocked off!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tendulkar’s knock at the top was immensely valuable. he absorbed all what the opening pair of fast men had to offier!! in fact Sehvag and Tendulkar kind of went after them and it took the Aussies by surprise. Tendulkar and Sehvag are rare talents, they made it look easy the shots that they played. Well we were looking at Lee and tait!!!!!!!!!!! The openers played them so well that it felt so easy on the eye, but I bet not many opening pairs would have been able to do that!!!!!!!!!!!! Rare rare very rare talents!!!!!
It was a great victory, it was great fun. It was very very enjoyable!!!!!!! To me it was more satisfying than anything that would transpire later in the tournament!!!!!!!!
Good Bye Australia, see you later!!!!!!! Good bye your captain……….. well, see you later????????????? (I hope not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Enjoyable, thrillilng satisfying win. Great job done guys Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yep india would be glad to kick aus out of the way…. up coming… Pak(easier win than this match) and then the final with either sri lanka or south africa…. though your in for a huge challenge against SA it will be 20 times harder than pak match and 10 times harder than this match.
I’m ashamed of Pak supporters like you Ali Ahmad. Since you are into stats…Aus had a unbeaten record of 34 games in a row…records are meant to be broken. I have complete faith in the Pak team even though its a uphill battle.
One team has to go out…thats the way it is. But it is a achievement in itself that we have made it to SF given our previous history in the past 1 and 1/2 years. Would love to hear the national anthem of Pakistan on the Indian ground with the flag waving in the back.
I’m usually very neutral and have great respect for Indian team unlike they have for us. Even people like Ian Chappell are launching personal attacks against Pak. On a BBC radio he said something along the lines that Gambhir runout was trying to top Panickistan. So, once again we have made it this far with dedication and complete faith in us to beat any team. What you should take out of my “rant” is that politics shouldnt be involved in any sports.
Also the booing at Ponting completely illustrates the mentality of Indian fans who for some reason are very aggressive. Same goes for the media. I think that if our bowlers get those early wickets then we have a game. Funny thing is that people are already getting worked up and there is like a week left.
My friend today sent a text saying “India Zindabad b****hes” and I figured that he was referring to the Indian win but he is American born and I have never discussed cricket with him since I met him last year. So this should give you some indication of intensity in that upcoming SF which has already overshadowed all other games. Pak and Ind can keep fighting while Eng somehow steals the cup lol.
Well said about eng stealing the cup – I was thinking along the same lines that somebody from the other side is gonna have an easy chance at stealing the cup since whoever wins between india-pakistan has somehow already satisfied its team’s following.. very bizarre how these rivalries work. As far as the Ponting thing, the fans’ reaction is just another example of the ‘junta’ mentality — why bother thinking for ourselves, if someone says Ponting’s the devil, then so be it. I wonder if this would have happened had this game been played in Chennai or Bangalore. I am definitely not overlooking Pakistan – they are a formidable opponent and I think the Indian team realizes that. I’m looking forward to an intense, close, and spirited game — all the best to both teams.
Also, man, if someone starts a fund to get Siddhu off the expert panel – you’ll probably get a decent donation from me .. he’s an absolute clown.. it’s tragic I’ve to deal with his pearls of trash and those of Charles Barkley for the NCAA tournament.. HELP!
ok yes i know indian fans disrespect our players and we respect their players but what u want me to do? lol, i AM supporting PAK and the match could go either way but lets face it, india has a better team you cant deny truth, indians can but i cant.
nicely written ma’m!
This comment is dedicated to Ricky Ponting
The selectors must have been persuaded very very very hard!!!!!!!!! Ricky Ponting does not have an answer now (“Well we got to the QF” would not cut the ice!!!!!!)
To his credit Ricky Ponting’s knock was as good as it gets. On this pitch by a player from outside the sub continent, it was a treat. Some shots were very delightful (Even being an Indian supporter some shots were really really delightfull, given the nature of the pitch). Skill wise I can never say anything but that Ponting is an excellent player. Add to that his mental strength and the capability to produce innings in big matches. I don’t forget his innings in 2003 WC final against India. Also in 1999 WC his little Innings in partership with Steve Waugh against Sourth Africa was something else (that innings was very very little but had great impact on the game).
Having said that I take great pleasure in saying that I enjoyed immensely today.
he claimed (well won’t want to give him the benefit of doubt) a bump ball yet again!!!!!!!!!!! (Do they say something about something not getting straight ever!!!!!!!!!!)
Enjoyed his interview with Ravi Shastri. Shastri really knows how to rub it in!!!!!!!!!!! I enjoyed that immensely!!!!!!!!!
Was somebody ready to cry there during that interview!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Aussie Commentator mentioned ‘he is leading the pack………..’ Lead your pack back home sir!!! Thanks for coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The on field behaviour of the Australians warranted some reaction from the crowd which the Aussies richly deserved!!!!!!!!!!
Haddin can’t collect a ball Ricky Ponting complains……..!! Spirit of the game need not be preached by someone like Ponting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know it is gamesmanship but verbals from Tait towards Tendulkar were completely uncalled for!!! I wonder who infuses such attitude in the team!!!!!!!!!
The ball is again in the court of the Australian selectors. Yes, even after a hundred there is a lot of persuading to be done!!!!!!!! will they listen!!!!!! I am not worried about that now!!!!!!!
All teams must be quietly happy and giggling to themselves!!!!!!! The Australian threat is over!!! What about the career of the man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I see what ur saying…. after all these years of arrogance and stubbornness to accept truth, finally day has arrived for Ricky
Haha, you and I will never agree
He DID NOT claim a catch — his reaction was of uncertainty, which prompted the umpires to, rightly, go for the review.
Each captain has different ways of controlling/leading his team – have you seen how Afridi reacts to any untoward incident? How about Dhoni – for 6 straight post-match/pre-match interviews, he made fun of the fielding .. called the players on the team old and slow — and what was the result, they picked their game up.
Verbals from Tait to Tendulkar are uncalled for? Why? I’ve seen most bowlers try to get into Tendulkar’s head — and watched almost all of them look in awe after one of his glorious shots. You’ll probably see a lot of those “uncalled” verbals when we play Pakistan .. oh, and our players will do it too. The only uncalled verbals in my opinion are from somebody like Sreesanth.. when you have nothing to back it up, you end up just being the clown.
For your own sake, move on from Ponting
India was glorious .. hopefully, we continue our run all the way to the trophy.
probably we do not think the same way!!!!!!! lets wait and watch out for our next game!! Cheers!!!!!!!!!!
Great game!!!!Pakistan vs India, that is what the doctor ordered. Someone should shoot Ian Chappel. He made negative comments in the Pakistan game when they beat the crap out of Australia and now he did it again with India when they did the same. I guess he just doesn’t want India or Pakistan to win. What I moron. Now he can take his sorry face back to Australia and coach the Australian team.
Delighted to see India win as we’ll have a new champion this time. Ind Vs Pak will be the biggest match of the tournament before the final. I hope it will be a close and entertaining match, not an one-sided.
For a change I would be relaxed during an India Pakistan game. Being an Indian I obviously want India to win but would really want to enjoy a good game!!!! Also more importantly I wanted to see the back of the Aussies and that too done by Indian team is an Icing on the cake therefore, I really do not ask too much more from the Indian team except good showing!!!!!!!
It is a Semi final so I won’t want to buy any stuff saying that the X team is favourite to win or the y team is favourite to win. It is a Semi Final and an India Pakistan game. Game of nerves!!!!!!!
I won’t want to say it but if anything India being the host might feel slightly more pressure going into the game. I also hope the Indian media does not put them under further undue pressure during the time leading upto the game.
Pakistan does have more than a decent team and conditions in Mohali are very similar to Lahore (I hope the due does not spoil the fun, it sometimes is heavy due there but I would assume that we are past winter season now!!!). I am really impressed with Gul and Hafeez. these two players did well in the T20 WC final against India as well. Kamaran Akmal always brings his A game out against India much like Saeed Anwar used to do. I am wary of Misbah too!!!!!!!! (I am sure Pak fans would be wary of some of the Indian players as well). Afridi and Razzak are game breakers too. Well, whoever wants to write off such a team would do it on his own peril. This team could worry any opposition and I am sure Indian think tank would be more than serious!!!!!!!! But India should take a lot of confidence from today’s win!!!!!
Enjoyable game today, and enjoyable game in prospect!!!!!!!!!!
Well, All the best to both the teams. As Wasim Akram would say “Let the best team Win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Dear Admin.. your match comments are really appreciated. Even I felt bad when Ponting was booed.
Well this was quite an entertaining match, I literally jumped with joy the moment I saw that India had won. Truly magnificent match and finally it’ll be India v Pakistan in the semi’s something that I was so anxiously hoping would happen.
As an Indian, I will most definitely be cheering for India, but Pakistan will still of course have my respect for persevering through and getting this far. At the end of the day, it won’t really matter who wins, I’m just extremely glad Australia has been knocked out.
I must admit however, I am extremely disappointed with the fans in Ahmedabad. Booing Ponting was completely uncalled for and extremely disrespectful. Oh well, the idiots amongst us will never learn will they? Good show by Australia nonetheless and a very well deserved century for Ponting.
Let’s see what the future holds for India and Pakistan.
Oops, I forgot to mention my thanks to the admin for the continued efforts. Much appreciated!
Good to see a change in Australia’s continuous dominant reign in World Cup. Well done India!
…and thanks very much to Admin for the great service!
